Steven Kitchen, MD, named Phoebe Chief Medical Officer

ALBANY, Ga. – Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital announced today that Steven E. Kitchen, MD, FACOG, has accepted the position as the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Steve Kitchen into the role of Chief Medical Officer at Phoebe,” said Joel Wernick, president and CEO. “Over the past 25 years, his dedication to the health of those in this community has made him one of the most highly regarded physicians among his patients and his peers. He has served on numerous committees and championed a commitment to preserving professionalism in the medical field. “

To achieve the best quality outcomes, there is great value in having a team-based approach,” said Dr.  Kitchen. “My commitment to improving outcomes will be to facilitate bringing people together in a collaborative manner.  I am excited, and honored, at the opportunity to influence patient care in a larger context.”

Dr. Kitchen has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology locally for 25 years and is a partner of Women’s Health Professionals. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore.

He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kitchen has served as Chief of Staff at Phoebe since 2013, and twice served as chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  He also currently serves on the credentials committee and the surgical case review committee at the hospital.

He and his wife, Kay, a local internist, have three daughters.
