Jason Smith, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Jason Smith is a Georgia native who returned to southwest Georgia in 2023 to assume the role of Chief Medical Officer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Dr. Smith was born and raised in Douglasville and graduated from Mercer University before attending the Medical College of Georgia. After practicing for six years in northwest Georgia, Dr. Smith moved to Mitchell County where he worked at the local hospital and nursing home, as well as a primary care clinic.

Dr. Smith served as a chief medical officer at a hospital in Wisconsin and a health system in Athens, GA before joining the Phoebe Family. As PPMH’s CMO, Dr. Smith is committed to working closely with physicians and the administration to ensure Phoebe provides the highest quality and safest care possible to patients. He is a strong advocate for all members of the medical staff, not just physicians employed by Phoebe, and he collaborates with those physicians to help Phoebe offer the healthcare services our community wants and needs.
