Phoebe Encourages Southwest Georgia to “Love Your Hearts”

The month of February is all about the heart at Phoebe Putney Health System. In an effort to promote heart health, the hospital, along with partners like the American Heart Association, Firehouse Subs, Kohl’s and local churches, have planned an entire month of events in celebration of National Heart Month.

Heart screenings, health fairs and other events will be taking place across Southwest Georgia to remind the community to “Love Your Heart.”

Below is a list of scheduled events:

Thursday, February 14 | 10am-2pm
Annual Love Your Heart blood pressure screenings at Albany Mall. The staff from Phoebe Surgical Weight Loss and Wellness Center will also participate providing healthy weight and wellness information.

Thursday, February 14 | 9am-3pm
Screenings will also take place in Americus at Walmart and Winn Dixie.

Saturday, February 23 | 6pm
Second Annual Healthy Heart Basketball game. Watch the Phoebe Sumter All Stars take on the Sumter County Sheriff Department! Game will take place at the Americus Sumter South Campus Gymnasium in Americus. Tickets are: $2 for adults; $1 for children.

Sunday, February 24 | All Day
Phoebe in conjunction with area churches, are encouraging residents to wear red to church that Sunday. To help promote awareness of heart disease, please click and print the documents below to distribute.

Tuesday, February 19 | Firehouse Subs
Phoebe’s Network of Trust and Firehouse Subs partner to place 17 new AED units in Dougherty County Elementary Schools.

Friday, February 22
Phoebe Cardiologist, Dr. Kamil Hanna, will donate much needed AED equipment to Albany/Dougherty Search and Rescue.

Tuesday, February 26 | Lincoln Magnet School
Phoebe and American Heart Association announce grant to build heart healthy urban garden at Lincoln Magnet School.

Heart Healthy Television Promotions
TV and print ads featuring Georgia resident and Grammy winner Ann Nesby will appear throughout the month on television and in newspapers across Southwest Georgia. Ads and public service announcements will promote heart health.
