Phoebe Sumter News Release
May 1, 2012
AMERICUS— Phoebe Sumter Medical Center (PSMC) will host its third annual Women's Health Conference from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 19th at the Student Success Center on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University. This is a free event and women of all ages are encouraged to attend.
"We had more than 400 women attend this event last year, and we are expecting roughly the same number this year," said Marcus Johnson, director of Marketing & Public Relations at PSMC.
"This year's theme is Sweet Success: Preventing and Controlling Diabetes,” said Johnson. “Diabetes is on the verge of epidemic levels in some parts of the country, especially the South, so we wanted to focus on ways to prevent diabetes as well as ways of controlling it for those who already have this disease. Diabetes can lead to so many other health issues, from eyesight to foot care, and we will have a number of physicians on hand discussing ways women can make sure their families know how to prevent diabetes or deal with it if someone already has diabetes.”
Added Johnson, "Like last year, there will be a number of free tests, souvenirs, vendor information and door prizes, and breakfast and lunch will be served. All blood work and other testing will be done from 8-10 a.m. only as we know that a lot of people will have fasted the night before.”
