LINX® Reflux Management System
The LINX Surgical System provides a minimally invasive alternative to more complex methods of surgical treatment.
Have you suffered through Acid Reflux Disease? Millions have.
Until now patients have had limited surgical options beyond the ongoing use of acid suppression drugs. Now there is the LINX Reflux Management System, a newly FDA approved device designed for the treatment of gastrointestinal reflux disease commonly known as GERD.
The LINX System is a small implant comprised of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores. The magnetic attraction between the beads supports the existing esophageal sphincter’s barrier function to prevent reflux. The device is implanted with a standard minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure and is an alternative to the more anatomically disruptive Nissen fundoplication, commonly used in anti-reflux surgical procedures. It is believed that as many as two million people with GERD in the U.S. could benefit from treatment with the LINX System.
Symptoms of GERD include heartburn, regurgitation, sore throat, cough and chest pain. It can also cause inability to sleep and dietary constraints
The LINX System will not work for everyone with reflux. For example, it isn’t approved for people with Barrett’s esophagus, with active erosive esophagitis or with particularly large hiatal hernias. Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 75 and have a body mass index (BMI) under 35.
